Lesson 09.1 · Phase 09 Designer path
Briefing a visual.
01 · The problem
“Make it modern” is not a brief. A visual has a job: stop a walker, sit next to type, print small. Name that before you name a colour.
02 · The prompt
Describe the job, the surface, the must-keep, and the must-not. Ask for a written picture first, not a file.
A visual brief
Write a brief for a header image on a welcome page. Job: show a quiet table before class, not a crowd. Surface: wide, sits above eight lines of type, print-safe. Must keep: table, paper, one cup. Must not: faces, logos, neon. Do not generate an image. Write the brief in six lines.
03 · Try itPromptYour prompt
You should be able to hand those six lines to a person with a camera.
Illustrative answer — written for this lesson, not a live model
Wide still life, table edge to edge. White paper in a stack, one cup of tea, morning light from the left. No people, no type in the image, no brand mark. Quiet, paper-grain, print-safe contrast. The type below must still be the loudest thing. If it looks like an ad, it failed.
04 · What you made
A visual brief that could travel without you in the room.
